Scaffold on a site on a day outside work stops

Rain stopped the outside work? Write it the same day

The rain started at nine. Outside plaster stopped, the scaffold is slippery, and the crew came down. Inside, skim coat can continue in the dry room. If nothing is written, three weeks later that day looks empty, and handover moved with no reason you can show.

Weather is a fair reason to stop outside work. It is not a reason to stay quiet. The client sees a clear sky from their office and does not understand why the scaffold is standing. A message the same morning, with what stopped and what did not, closes that.

What you write the same day

  • What stopped outside, and which trade
  • What continued inside, if it continued
  • Who was sent home, and how many hours there still were
  • Whether material got wet, and where it is covered
  • A new date for the work that stopped, one you can keep

A message to the client: at Herzl 12 outside plaster stopped because of rain. Inside, skim coat continues on the first floor. We return to plaster on Wednesday, if the wall is dry. Not tomorrow morning as a default. A wet wall does not get plaster just because the diary was free.

A date you can keep

One rain day does not always mean one day of delay. Drying, a wet scaffold, and a crew that already moved to another site can shift two or three days. Write the day you can hold, not the day that calms people down. A date that breaks a second time costs more than the rain.

If the inside work also stopped, because there is no power or because the material outside got wet, say so. Do not write that you continued if the crew sat in the shed. Hours paid for waiting are written as waiting, not as a work day on the wall.

Why it matters at the end

Three rain days with no note look at handover like a week of delay that belongs to you. With the note there is a chain: date, what stopped, what moved, and who was told. If you ask for more time or explain why a stage payment moved, there is a page and not only it rained that day.

Material that got wet is written the same day: how many bags, whether they were thrown out, whether the supplier replaces them. Without that the bags disappear from the budget, and the bill has no line. A photo of the covered stack, or of what was thrown out, sits with the note.

Rain happens. A day with no sentence turns it into a delay with no explanation.
